Nearing the end of July, we look forward to August, the hottest month of the year. Water bodies swell with human ones as people of all ages seek cooling outdoor activities in their last outings and travels before school begins. Now, we all begin to think about upcoming preparations for fall.
Sellers, it's time to gather your Sardonyx, peridot and spinel gems for display and sale. Yes, August calls attention to three birthstones which, if you'd like to know more, are described by the American Gem Society.
Often confused with ruby and sapphire, spinel is found in vibrant red and blue hues.
Vegetables and Flowering Plants of August
Peaches, pears, eggplant, okra, celery, and fennel comprise the prime veggies of August . . . cactus, too. Find them fresh around town, when possible. For fun, browse the wide assortment of cacti/succulent items available from Etsy artists.
Green thumbs are especially enjoying their cacti and succulent plants as the summer heat raises to its highest temps. Poppy and Gladiolus are August's recognized flowers.
Space and Tide Aficionados

Stargazers are aware that we're in birth sign Leo at this time in July, until August 23, and that Leo is ruled by the strongest form of life in our solar system, the sun. The constellation Leo was in the sky during the hottest time of year, and the lion and its symbolism became the apt representation of those born under this astrological sign.
August Dates for Your Calendar

Aug 26: Women's Equality Day
Consider adding one of the following special dates to your calendar:

Think about sending cards and tokens of affection to friends on Friendship Day. Look for special deals around town and beyond for Senior Citizens Day, and make it a special time for that senior in your life and for you both by learning something that can benefit the seniors of your community. Girlfriends will appreciate special observances on Women's Equality Day, and it's important to remember to pass along remembrances and information regarding the reasons for its existence.
